In order to change 3/16 to decimal form we need to divide 3 by 16. We know that since 3 is smaller than 16 we are going to end up with a number less than 1.
We can divide 3/16 with a calculator or do it longhand. In this video I did the division longhand (but checked my answer with a calculator). When we divide 3 by 16, we get 0.1875.
So: 3/16 = 0.1875
0.1875 is less than 1 so that is a good way to check if our answer is reasonable. You could also multiply your answer by the denominator and you should get the numerator. In this case 0.1875 x 16 = 3.
Note that 3/16 and 0.1875 represent the same quantity, they are just written in different formats. 3/16 is a fraction and 0.1875 is in decimal form.
