NCIS: Origins is the sixth entry in the NCIS franchise, but — true to its name — it’s not a true spin-off. It’s a prequel, introducing us to some of the original show’s characters prior to the start of the NCIS timeline. Mark Harmon, who played the lead role of Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs on NCIS, is an executive producer on the show, and he’s also serving as the show’s narrator, while a new actor (Austin Stowell) will play his character’s younger self. Harmon, who left the original series during its 19th season, talked to us about why he chose to leave the old show back in 2021 but return for NCIS: Origins.
NCIS: Origins airs Monday nights on CBS, and episodes start streaming the following day on Paramount+.
